Box Score

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Saint John's scored three second-half goals to earn a key 3-2 soccer win at St. Thomas on Wednesday, Oct. 15, in St. Paul.

SJU (7-6, 4-3 MIAC) entered the match in a tie for sixth in the MIAC standings, one point behind St. Thomas, with four league games to play. The top six teams advance to the MIAC Playoffs Nov. 4.

Johnny Mulvahill gave UST (8-6-1, 3-3-1 MIAC) an early 1-0 lead off a corner kick 8:46 into the contest.

The 1-0 deficit stood through halftime until sophomore Rocky Harmon (Hudson, Wis.) tied the match with his fifth collegiate goal in the 53rd minute, on a cross from junior Robert Deetz (Owatonna, Minn.) that failed to get cleared out of the box. Junior Paul Wageman (Roseville, Minn./DeLaSalle) earned the second assist.

Sophomore Dylan Lehrer (Prior Lake, Minn.) gave SJU the lead less than four minutes later with a well-place header off a throw-in from junior Cole Howard (Ridgefield, Wash./Skyview).

Miles Stockman-Willis tied it at 2-2 for the Tommies on a rebound off of a free kick with 21:50 left.

Junior Alex Niederloh (Maple Grove, Minn.) netted the game-winner in the 73rd minute, the fifth goal of his collegiate career. Deetz fed Wageman, who sent a cross to Niederloh at the top of the box. Four of Niederloh's five career goals have been game-winners.

Junior Kevin Lebahn (New Hope, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's) made two saves to improve to 6-6 on the year. SJU out-shot UST 11-6 in the game, including an 8-2 advantage in the second half.
