Senior Duo Earns All-MIAC Tennis Honors

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's seniors Fabricio Moncada (Managua, Nicaragua/Lincoln International Academy) and Willie Paul (Duluth, Minn./Marshall) were named to the 2013 All-MIAC Men's Tennis team on Wednesday, May 8. Classmate Zach Shriwise (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley West) was named to the MIAC All-Sportsmanship team.

A four-time All-MIAC selection, Moncada finished 20-6 in singles play and 15-5 at No. 1 (8-1 MIAC). The 20 wins are the most in a season by a Johnnie since Pete Crouser and Brent Feddema each won 20 matches in 1993. He also earned All-MIAC honors in doubles competition after totaling a 9-15 (4-5 MIAC) record. Moncada ended his career with a 57-21 career singles record, including a 25-11 mark in conference play.

Paul posted a 10-10 record in singles competition and an 8-1 mark in conference play this spring. He ended his career with a 21-19 record, including an impressive 16-3 mark in MIAC matches. Paul also tallied a 15-13 record in doubles play during his career.

Shriwise recorded an 8-10 mark in singles play with a 5-4 record in MIAC action. He completed his career with an 18-28 mark (11-13 MIAC) in singles play and 30-38 (17-18 MIAC) in doubles competition.

The Johnnies defeated St. Olaf in the quarterfinal round of the MIAC Tournament May 3 before falling to the eventual champion, Gustavus Adolphus, in the semifinals May 4. SJU tied for fourth in the MIAC with a 5-4 regular-season record and finished 8-13 overall.
