SJU Improves to 5-1 in Arizona With Sweep of Oberlin

TUCSON, Ariz. – Saint John's posted a pair of 6-3 wins in a sweep of Oberlin (Ohio) on Wednesday, March 27, in Tucson, Ariz.

Sophomore Aaron Pfaff (New Ulm, Minn./Cathedral) went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and senior Max Forster (Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins) went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI in game one's victory. The Johnnies jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings and made it 5-0 in the fourth before the Yeomen (6-8 overall) plated three runs off senior Ryan Spengler (St. Cloud, Minn./Tech) in the fifth.

Spengler improved to 2-0 with the win, allowing three runs on four hits in six innings of work. Senior Joey Long (Belvidere, Ill./Rockford Boylan) pitched a scoreless seventh to earn his third save of the season.

Freshman Patrick Strey (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) earned the win in game two, his first collegiate start. He allowed three runs on five hits in 4.1 innings before Forster allowed one hit over the next 2.2 innings to earn the save. The appearance was the first for Forster on the mound since May 5, 2011 (at Concordia-Moorhead).

Long was 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored, while sophomore Brett Becker (North Oaks, Minn./Mounds View) went 2-for-3 with two RBI from the No. 9 spot in the lineup. Senior Connor Cline (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) gave SJU (8-5 overall) a three-run cushion (5-2) with a two-out, two-run single in the fourth inning.

SJU wraps up its spring-break trip with a 10 a.m. doubleheader against Lewis & Clark (Ore.) on Thursday, March 28.
