MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Nationally-ranked Augsburg built a 3-0 en route to a 3-1 win over Saint John's on Friday, Dec. 6, in Minneapolis.

Carl Krieger gave Augsburg (8-0-1, 2-0-1 MIAC) a 1-0 lead 9:30 into the game and made it a two-goal game, following an offensive-zone penalty on SJU, with a rebound goal on the power play 6:31 later.

SJU (4-5, 2-3 MIAC) dominated play in the first 9:10 of the second period, out-shooting Augsburg 11-4 (2-2 on goal), but Ben McClellan made it 3-0 with his eighth goal of the season on an awkward play in which SJU sophomore Saxton Soley (Elk Mound, Wis.) dove to cover up the puck, in front of the net, and it found its way across the crease.

Senior Josh Gross (Maple Grove, Minn.) put the visitors on the board 8:29 into the third period with his fourth goal of the season (third on the power play), with an assist going to junior John Haeg (Lakeville, Minn.). The goal was also Gross' 40th career point.

Soley made 19 saves in the loss for SJU, which out-shot the home team 9-3 in the final frame. The Auggies, ranked as high as No. 14 nationally (D3hockey.com), have now scored three goals or more in seven of their last eight home games against SJU (6-2 record).

The Johnnies happily return home to host the Auggies for a 7 p.m. game Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud. Friday night's game ended a brutal stretch to start the season in which SJU played eight of its first nine games away from its home rink.
