ST. CLOUD, Minn. – No. 15 Wisconsin-River Falls broke a 1-1 tie with two third-period goals to defeat Saint John's on Thursday, Dec. 12, at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud.

Following a scoreless first period, Alec Hagaman gave River Falls (7-1-1, 2-0-0 WIAC) the lead 1:37 into the second period, eight seconds after an SJU penalty expired.

Senior Jason Johnson (Duluth, Minn.) tied it for SJU (5-6, 3-3 MIAC) with his second tally of the year, on a nice feed from behind the net from junior Phil Johnson (Duluth, Minn.). Senior Josh Gross (Maple Grove, Minn.) earned the second assist.

Mitch Kontny scored what proved to be the game-winning goal 4:45 into the third period and Hagaman added his second of the game for good measure, on the backhand, less than five minutes later. Both goals were scored by a Falcon skater that was all alone in front of the net.

Senior Mitch Thompson (Onalaska, Wis.) made 23 saves in the loss for SJU, which out-shot the Falcons 30-26 in the game (23-15 in the final two periods) but was 0-for-3 on the power play. The Johnnies attempted 61 shots in the game, but only 30 reached UWRF goaltender Scott Lewan (14 shots blocked and 17 wide).

SJU plays host to ninth-ranked St. Scholastica for "Pack the MAC" Night at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, at the Municipal Athletic Complex (MAC) in St. Cloud.
