A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: Thanks to the unseasonably-good weather, Saint John's begins its spring today against St. Cloud State instead of mid-April. The dual meet was rescheduled for last Tuesday, March 27, but was postponed due to high winds. The Johnnies return to the links following an uncharacteristic fall in which they finished third at the MIAC Championship and ended the calendar with a fourth-place finish at the Twin Cities Classic. The Gustavus' one-shot win over SJU at the Twin Cities Classic was the second in the span of a week, including the MIAC Championship. Junior Dennis Granath (Bandhagen, Sweden/Farsta Gymnasium) shot the final day's best round, a two-under par 70, to finish second out of 99 golfers with a 222 (+6). Senior Tony Krogen (Marshall, Minn.) posted a two-over par 74 to tie for 10th (+11, 227). Junior Andy Stahlman (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) and freshman Drew Lynch (Stillwater, Minn.) both tied for 13th (+12, 228) to lead SJU Blue.
NATIONAL RANKINGS: The Johnnies were ranked No. 9 in the most recent Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches' Division III poll released Wednesday, March 21. Guilford (N.C.) earned the top spot in the poll with 12 first-place votes and 368 points. Illinois Wesleyan tallied two first-place votes and 345 points to claim second, followed by Methodist (N.C.), Texas-Tyler and Redlands (Calif.).
