MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Saint John's dropped a hard-fought 5-4 decision at St. Thomas on Saturday, Feb. 18.

SJU (1-4, 0-2 MIAC) swept Nos. 1-3 singles via the super-breaker. Junior Fabricio Moncada (Managua, Nicaragua/Lincoln International Academy) won at No. 1 [7-6 (7-3), 4-6, 10-2] and senior Ian Hansen (Dawson, Minn./Dawson-Boyd) improved to 5-0 on the year with a victory at No. 2 [1-6, 7-6 (8-6), 10-5]. Sophomore Joe Laue (St. Louis Park, Minn./Holy Angels) posted a 6-4, 2-6, 10-8 win at No. 3.

Laue and Moncada teamed up to earn the Johnnies' lone doubles win at No. 2, 8-4.

Junior Zach Shriwise (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley West) lost a tough match to the Tommies (2-0, 1-0 MIAC) at No. 5 singles by two points in the super-breaker (6-0, 5-7, 11-9).

The Johnnies play host to Carleton for a noon match on Sunday, Feb. 19, at Gold's Gym in Sartell.
