Saint John's travels to face No. 8 Hamline this Thursday, Feb. 3. The game is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. at the Warner Coliseum (State Fairgrounds) in St. Paul. The Johnnies then return home to host the Pipers for a 7 p.m. puck-drop Saturday, Feb. 5, at the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud. –

A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: Saint John's let another two-goal lead slip away but earned a point toward the conference standings with a 2-2 tie at Concordia-Moorhead last Saturday, Jan. 29. The Johnnies let a 2-0 lead slip away in the 3-2 overtime loss the previous night. Senior
Grant Ellena (Coon Rapids, Minn.) and junior
Conor Rooney (Stillwater, Minn.) were responsible for both of the Johnnies' goals on Saturday. Rooney tallied his second goals in as many games 6:55 into the game with an assist from Ellena. Ellena gave SJU a 2-0 with a power-play goal 3:13 into the second period, with an assist from Rooney. The Cobbers cut the deficit to 2-1 2:25 later and tied it with a power-play goal 53 seconds into the third period. Junior
Tony Civello (Shoreview, Minn.) made 31 saves for SJU, as the Johnnies were outshot 33-21 (22-12 in first two periods).
A LOOK AT THE PIPERS: No. 8 Hamline (12-3-4, 7-0-3 MIAC) earned three points (1-0-1) against Augsburg last weekend. Brian Arrigoni leads four Pipers with 20+ points with 28 (13g/15a), followed by Ryan Kupperman (7g/18a), Chris Berenguer (12g/12a) and Alex Lundbohm (7g/13a). Beau Christian boasts a 10-1-3 record in net with a 2.32 GAA and a .925 save percentage.
THE LAST MEETING: The Pipers handed SJU a 3-0 loss earlier this season on Oct. 29 as part of the MIAC Showcase. SJU outshot the Pipers 27-22, including a 23-12 advantage in the second and third periods. The Johnnies were 0-7 on the power play and 0-for-2 with a 5-on-3 advantage. HU took a 1-0 lead on a power-play goal from Austun Tavis at the 14:49 mark of the first period. Sixteen seconds after SJU was unable to capitalize on a 1:46 5-on-3 power play, Arrigoni increased the lead to 2-0. Kupperman ended the scoring with a breakaway goal less than six minutes later. Adam Andersson (Pixbo, Sweden) made 19 saves in the loss. The shutout loss marked the first for the Johnnies since Nov. 3, 2007 (1-0 at Wis.-Eau Claire), a span of 75 games.
RECENT SERIES HISTORY: Since the 2006-07 season, SJU is just 2-8 against the Pipers. The Johnnies, however, were 23-1-2 against Hamline in the 26 games before the recent series shift.
