SJU's Playoff Chances End With 4-3 Loss at St. Olaf

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – St. Olaf erased a 3-1 deficit with three unanswered goals in the final 11:55 of the game to defeat Saint John's and eliminate the Johnnies from MIAC Playoff contention on Friday, Feb. 18, in Northfield.

Britton Smith gave the Oles (10-10-4, 4-7-4 MIAC) a quick 1-0 lead with a power-play goal 4:34 into the contest.

Sophomore Joe Harren (Warroad, Minn.) tied the game at 1-1 with the first of three straight SJU (6-16-2, 5-8-2 MIAC) goals 6:04 into the second period. Sophomore Michael Palmiscno (East Grand Forks, Minn.) was credited with the power-play assist.

Freshman James Saintey (Rosemount, Minn.) gave the Johnnies a 2-1 lead at the 13:47 mark of the second, with assists going to senior Mike Wallgren (Oakdale, Minn.) and sophomore Tobias Linbro (Nykvarn, Sweden).

Freshman Justin Hochsprung (Alexandria, Minn.) extend the lead to 3-1 with his first collegiate goal 7:16 into the third period. Freshman Patrick Noesen (Red Wing, Minn.) tallied the assist.

Austin Wetmore started the Oles' rally at the 11:55 mark of the third and Jeff Harris cut the deficit to one with his first goal of the season nearly three minutes later.

Fifty-three seconds later, Peter Rohn scored his second game-winning goal versus the Johnnies this season.

Junior Tony Civello (Shoreview, Minn.) made 35 saves in the loss, as the Johnnies were outshot 39-24 in the game (33-17 from the second period on).

The one-goal loss is SJU's eighth of the year and 18th in the last three seasons.

SJU returns home to host the Oles in the season finale Saturday, Feb. 19. The game is set for 2 p.m. at the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud.
