BLAINE, Minn. – Saint John's dropped a hard-fought 2-1 decision to Concordia-Moorhead on Sunday, Oct. 30, despite a 35-27 advantage in shots-on-goal.
The Johnnies (0-1-1, 0-0-0 MIAC) peppered the Cobbers' goaltender with 16 shots in the first period but could not find the back of the net.
Aaron Wheeler gave Concordia (2-0-0, 0-0-0 MIAC) a 1-0 lead with his second goal of the young season 5:46 into the second period. Braden Rahman increased the lead to 2-0 with a power-play goal at the 13:00 mark.
Junior Tobias Linbro (Nykvarn, Sweden) put SJU on the scoreboard with his first goal of the season1:06 into the third period. Junior Michael Palmiscno (East Grand Forks, Minn.) and freshman Buzz Tryggeseth (Buffalo, Minn.) tallied the assists.
Senior Tony Civello (Shoreview, Minn.) made 25 saves in the loss.
The Johnnies continue non-conference play at Wisconsin-Stout this Saturday, Nov. 5. The game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Dunn County Ice Arena in Menomonie, Wis.
