ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Saint John's brought its three-game skid to a halt with a 3-1 win over No. 15 Gustavus Adolphus on Saturday, Jan. 22, in St. Cloud.

The Johnnies have now either defeated or tied Gustavus in 32 of the last 38 meetings (28-6-4 record) and are 19-3-1 against GAC at home since 1992-93, including a 17-1-1 record in in the last 19 meetings at the National Hockey Center.

Sophomore Joe Harren (Warroad, Minn.) lit the lamp first, 13:09 into the opening period, with assists going to freshman Trent Johnson (Duluth, Minn.) and sophomore Michael Palmiscno (East Grand Forks, Minn.).

The Gusties (11-6-2, 5-3-2 MIAC) tied it three minutes later with a power-play goal from Adam Smyth.

Johnson was called for a five-minute major, checking from behind, and a game misconduct 3:29 into the second period, which gave the Gusties a five-minute power play. GAC, however, managed to muster only three shots on goal during the power play.

Senior Grant Ellena (Coon Rapids, Minn.) gave the lead back to SJU (4-13, 3-5 MIAC) 1:11 after the power play's expiration. Freshman Patrick Noesen (Red Wing, Minn.) was credited with the assist.

Sophomore Jascha Pettit (Wadena, Minn.) rattled a slap shot off the post and in to pad the Johnnies' lead with 1:08 remaining in the game. Harren and Palmiscno tallied assists on the scoring play.

Junior Tony Civello (Shoreview, Minn.) registered a stellar performance, making 32 saves to improve his record to 3-8 on the year. GAC outshot the Johnnies 33-24 in the game, though the home team did not capitalize on five different occasions in which a player was able to create a one-on-one opportunity on net.

SJU travels to Moorhead to face the Cobbers for two games this Friday and Saturday, Jan. 28-29.
