CHANDLER, Ariz. – Saint John's walked 13 batters, seven of which scored, in a 20-7 loss to Rockford (Ill.) on Friday, March 5.
Junior shortstop Matt Butorac (Maple Grove, Minn.) and sophomore third baseman Bert Marsnik (Annandale, Minn.) led SJU (5-2, 0-0 MIAC) with a single and double each, while senior first baseman Kyle Henkemeyer (Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice) added a pair of fielder's-choice RBI. Senior outfielder Nathaniel Jimenez (Trinidad, Colo./Holy Trinity) and freshman pinch hitter Mitch Oakes (Minnetonka, Minn.) added RBI singles in the late innings.
Senior Andrew Aebly (Madison, Wis./Edgewood) was tagged with the loss, allowing four runs on two hits and three walks without retiring a batter.
The Regents (1-0 overall) opened up an 8-3 lead with 12 runs in the fifth and sixth innings. The Johnnies used nine different pitchers in the game.
SJU returns to action Saturday, March 6, against the College of New Jersey. The nine-inning contest is scheduled for noon CST.
