SARTELL, Minn. – Saint John's lost three singles matches via the super-breaker as the host Johnnies dropped their 2010 season opener 7-2 to No. 27 Luther (Iowa) on Saturday, Feb. 13.
Freshman Fabricio Moncada (Managua, Nicaragua/Lincoln International Academy) won his first set at No. 1 singles before falling by scores of 6-3 and 10-7 in the super-breaker. Sophomore Ian Hansen (Dawson, Minn./Dawson-Boyd) and senior Luke Odegaard (Forest Lake, Minn.) lost both of their matches due to a 13-11 decision in the super-break.
The Johnnies (0-1, 0-0 MIAC) picked up wins from junior Elliott Elm (Eagan, Minn./Holy Angels) and sophomore Justin LaBeaux (Sartell, Minn./Sartell-St. Stephen) at Nos. 4 and 6 singles, respectively.
SJU plays host to its second nationally-ranked opponent in as many days as No. 18 Carleton pays a visit on Sunday, Feb. 14. The match is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at Gold's Gym in Sartell.
