SJU Baseball Ends Season With Series Split

ST. ANTHONY, Minn. – Saint John's ended its 2009 season with a two-game split against Hamline on Saturday, May 2, at St. Anthony. The Johnnies posted a five-run fourth inning to take an 8-4 lead and held on for an 8-7 win in game one before falling 11-4 in the season finale.

Junior Joe Eiden (Maple Grove, Minn./Totino-Grace) and sophomores Kyle Henkemeyer (Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice) and Aaron Traut (St. Cloud, Minn./Rocori) tallied two hits apiece, while sophomore Matt Butorac (Maple Grove, Minn.) and senior Mike Krempa (Burnsville, Minn./Holy Angels) posted two RBI in game one.

Senior Alex Wahl (Plymouth, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's) allowed seven runs on 10 hits in 5 2/3 innings of work to improve his record to 3-5 on the season. Junior Andrew Aebly (Madison, Wis./Edgewood) pitched the final 1 1/3 scoreless and hitless innings to earn his third save.

Hamline jumped ahead early with eight runs thru the first three innings of play in game two. Butorac went 2-for-4 to lead the Johnnies, who left eight men on base. SJU left 14 men on base on the day to the Pipers' 11.

The Johnnies end the season with a 12-20 overall record and a 7-13 record in the MIAC.

SJU head coach Jerry Haugen ended his 32nd season four wins shy of 600 for his career with a 596-519-5 record.
