Johnnies Drop Two Games at Gustavus

ST. PETER, Minn. – Saint John's dropped two games at Gustavus Adolphus, 5-3 and 7-2, on Tuesday, April 7, in St. Peter. The doubleheader was the first for SJU (7-9, 2-2 MIAC) outdoors since March 8.

Junior Andrew Gurbada (Royalton, Minn.) and sophomores Matt Butorac (Maple Grove, Minn.), Kyle Henkemeyer (Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice) and Brian Skluzacek (Cold Spring, Minn./Rocori) collected two hits apiece in game one, as the Johnnies out-hit the Gusties 10-9.

Senior Alex Wahl (Plymouth, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's) allowed four runs, three earned, on nine hits in five innings of work in the loss. Junior Andrew Aebly (Madison, Wis./Edgewood) allowed one run, unearned, in the seventh.

A solo home run from Butorac, his second of the season, and an RBI single from junior Joe Eiden (Maple Grove, Minn./Totino-Grace) accounted for SJU's two runs in game two of the twinbill.

Sophomore Brett Kramer (Baxter, Minn./Brainerd) took the loss, allowing seven runs, five earned, on six hits in just three innings. Freshman Ben Moen (Rochester, Minn./John Marshall) and juniors Matt Johnson (Eagan, Minn.) and Aaron Hellem (Lincoln, Neb./Pius X) each threw a scoreless inning of relief.

The Johnnies return to action by hosting Bethel this Thursday, April 9. Game one of the doubleheader is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at Saint John's Field in Collegeville. The pair of games was originally scheduled for April 4, but has been postponed due to snow.
