COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's ended the home portion of its schedule with a pair of losses at the hands of Augsburg, 9-8 (9 innings) and 10-4, on Tuesday, April 21.
The Johnnies left a combined 21 men on base in the doubleheader.
SJU pounded out 14 hits but left 10 men on base and committed five errors in the 9-8 extra-inning loss. Four of the nine runs allowed were earned.
Juniors Andrew Gurbada (Royalton, Minn.) and Nathaniel Jimenez (Trinidad, Colo./Holy Trinity), and freshman Bert Marsnik (Annandale, Minn.) had three hits apiece in game one.
Junior Andrew Aebly (Madison, Wis./Edgewood) allowed seven hits in seven innings of work, allowing eight runs, though only three were earned. Junior Matt Johnson (Eagan, Minn.) allowed one run in two innings of relief to take the loss.
Marsnik and sophomore Kyle Henkemeyer (Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice) had two hits each as Marsnik ended the day 5-for-8 on the day.
SJU jumped out to a 4-1 lead after two innings but were kept off the scoreboard thru the final five, leaving a total of 11 on base.
The Johnnies (10-16, 5-9 MIAC) travel to face St. Olaf for a 1 p.m. doubleheader this Saturday, April 25, in Northfield.
