Johnnies Begin Spring With Win Over St. Cloud State

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The two-time defending national champion Saint John's University golf team opened the spring portion of its 2008-09 schedule with a 302-304 dual win over St. Cloud State on Monday, April 13, at the Territory G.C. in St. Cloud. 

Saint John's Blue recorded a team total of 307, while St. Cloud State Black finished the day with a 321 (+33).

Senior Joey Polingo (Litchfield, Minn.) led SJU with a one-over par 73, followed by senior Joe Daly (Owatonna, Minn.) with a 74 (+2) and junior Ben Vangsness (Alexandria, Minn.) with a 77 (+5).

St. Cloud State's Beau Anderson led all individuals with a one-under par 71.

Freshman Tony Krogen (Marshall, Minn.) led Saint John's Blue with a one-over par 73, while freshman Jamie Krula (Chippewa Falls, Wis.) posted a 75.

There were two hole-in-one's on the day. Krula recorded a hole-in-one on No. 8 (198 yards) with a five-iron, while St. Cloud State's Mitch Means knocked it in on No. 11 (171 yards) with a seven-iron.

SJU returns to action with the annual Johnnie-Tommie dual against St. Thomas this Saturday, April 18. Match play is scheduled to begin at 10:40 a.m. at the Pebble Creek G.C. in Becker.
