Saint John's (5-7-2, 1-5-1 MIAC) plays host to Saint Mary's this Saturday, Oct. 24. The match is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at George Durenberger Field in Collegeville. The Johnnies then host Carthage (Wis.) for a 3 p.m. match on Sunday, Oct. 25.
A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: Saint John's dropped a 3-2 decision to St. Thomas on Wednesday, Oct. 21, in Collegeville. Brett Day gave St. Thomas an early 1-0 lead 16:47 into the match. Junior Andre Blaine (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek Christian) tied the game with his first career goal 14:02 into the second half. Senior Jake Archbold (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) and junior Kevin Saunders (Hastings, Minn.) assisted on the scoring play for SJU. Four minutes later, senior Paul Keane (Rochester, Minn./Mayo) gave the Johnnies a 2-1 lead off a feed from freshman Cillian Wing (Harlingen, Texas/South). The lead was short-lived, however, as the Tommies' Reid Moser-Bliel scored a header off a corner kick less than three minutes later. Elliot Admundson then tallied the game-winner at the 83:43 mark. Senior Luke Nelson (Caledonia, Minn.) made seven saves in the loss.
A LOOK AT THE CARDINALS: Saint Mary's (4-8-2, 0-6-1 MIAC) is coming off a 1-0 loss to Hamline on Oct. 17. The Cardinals field a young team consisting of nine starting sophomores, but did return their 2008 All-MIAC goalkeeper Jon Szafranski. He currently has a .812 save percentage and 104 saves on the year. SMU is currently led offensively by Steve Boussie (3g/3a) and Ryan Rademacher (3g/0a).
THE LAST MEETING: The Johnnies defeated Saint Mary's 5-1 on Oct. 18, 2008, in Winona. SJU's first three goals from came within a six-minute span in the first half, while the Cardinals' single goal came from a penalty kick by Boussie in the second half. Nelson made one save for the Johnnies thru the first 45 minutes of action, while sophomore Matt Anderson (Eden Prairie, Minn.) made two saves in the second half. - Box Score
A LOOK AT CARTHAGE: Carthage (4-7-4, 3-3-0 CCIW) is coming off a 3-0 win against North Central in its most recent match Oct. 21. The Red Men are currently led by sophomore Aleks Urosevic (5g/1a) and senior Andrew Gamarra (3g/0a). Goalkeeper Taao Scarnato has posted a .789 save percentage this fall with 56 saves. Carthage has competed against two MIAC teams this season; St. Olaf (T, 1-1) and Carleton (L, 0-1). Both matches went to overtime.
THE LAST MEETING: The last time these two institutions met was Sept. 12, 2004, in Kenosha, Wis. The Johnnies answered an early 1-0 deficit with three consecutive goals to post a 3-2 victory. - Box Score
