A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: Saint John's and Bethel battled to a 1-1 tie on Friday, Oct. 16, in Collegeville. Junior Colin Hall (Maple Grove, Minn.) blasted a shot off the right post with three seconds remaining in the final overtime. Following a scoreless first half, Bethel took a 1-0 lead on a goal from Gregory LeVere 8:42 into the second frame. The Johnnies tied the match on a breakaway goal from freshman Shane Thuleen (Eden Prairie, Minn.) at the 72:51 mark of the second half. Senior Paul Keane (Rochester, Minn./Mayo) assisted on the play. Senior Luke Nelson (Caledonia, Minn.) made nine saves for SJU. The tie was the 50th of SJU head coach Pat Haws' career (341-135-50 career record).
A LOOK AT THE TOMMIES: St. Thomas defeated Gustavus 2-1 in overtime in its most recent match on October 17. The overtime match marked the sixth overtime game for the Tommies this season (3-2-1 record). Offensively, UST is led by sophomore Mike Hutton (8g/2a) and junior Elliot Amundson (5g/2a). Senior goalkeeper Carlos Castelan has posted a .759 save percentage with 44 saves this season (7-5-0 record).
THE LAST MEETING: St. Thomas defeated the Johnnies 2-1 in overtime the last time these two met on Sept. 10, 2008, in St. Paul. The Tommies took an early 1-0 lead in the 15th minute on junior Kyle Mader's header off a rebound. The Johnnies tied the game at 1-1 in the 87th minute also on a header. UST junior Reid Moser-Bleil's first collegiate goal was the game-winner 4:40 into overtime. Since 1987, SJU is 5-2-3 against the Tommies in Collegeville and have gone to overtime three of the last four meetings at Durenberger Field (2-1-1 record). - Box Score
