NORTHFIELD, Minn. – All five Saint John's University starters scored in double figures as the visiting Johnnies defeated Carleton 81-70 Saturday, Dec. 6 in Northfield.
Sophomore wing Chris Schwartz (Sioux Falls, S.D./Lincoln) led the Johnnies with 25 points, his third 20-point game of the young season, while sophomore wing Aaron Burtzel (Cold Spring, Minn./Rocori) added 11 points and a career-high 18 rebounds for the Johnnies (3-3, 2-0 MIAC).
Sophomore wing Todd Herman (Spicer, Minn./New London-Spicer) tallied 17, while freshmen Aaron Barmore (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) and Andy Burns (Shorewood, Minn./Minnetonka) added 13 and 12, respectively.
Zach Johnson led Carleton (3-1, 0-1 MIAC) with 21 points before being ejected following his second technical foul of the second half with 2:54 remaining in the game.
The Johnnies, who led by as much as 17 with 2:53 left in the first half, out-rebounded the Knights 40-22 and were 29 of 35 from the free-throw line in the game.
SJU returns to action Wednesday, Dec. 10 at Macalester. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Leonard Center in St. Paul.
