Lead Slips Away in 4-3 Loss at St. Olaf

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – St. Olaf scored three unanswered goals in the third period to defeat Saint John's 4-3 on Friday, Nov. 14 in Northfield.

The Oles' Dylan Mueller scored the first of his two goals on the night just 1:23 into the game.

The Johnnies answered, however, with three consecutive goals by senior forwards Jake Hipp (Bismarck, N.D.), Brian Baker (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) and Pat Connelly (Birchwood, Minn.). Senior defenseman Lance Wheeler (Clearwater, Minn.) and Baker assisted on Hipp's game-tying goal at the 6:55 mark of the first period, while sophomore forward Mike Wallgren (Oakdale, Minn.) and Hipp assisted on Baker's power-play goal with 2:08 left in the first frame.

Freshman forward Conor Rooney (Stillwater, Minn.) assisted on Connelly's goal, his third of the season, to record his first collegiate point at the 12:33 mark of the second period.

Mueller cut the deficit to 3-2 at the 8:10 mark of the third period for St. Olaf (3-2, 1-0 MIAC). Roger Truesdale tied the game at 3-3 with 7:44 remaining, and Derek Grogan scored the game-winner 28 seconds later.

Senior goaltender Vince Wheeler (Clearwater, Minn.) made 39 saves for SJU, which was outshot 43-30 in the game.

The Johnnies (1-4, 0-1 MIAC) return home to host the Oles on Saturday, Nov. 15. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud.
