Lowell, Johnnies Overwhelm Saint Mary's for 5-1 Win

WINONA, Minn. - Saint John's University senior Levi Lowell (Stillwater, Minn.) scored three goals in a six-minute span, all within the first 19 minutes of the match, as the Johnnies defeated Saint Mary's 5-1 on Saturday, Oct. 18 in Winona. The game was the Cardinals' first appearance at the new Ochrymowycz Field.

Lowell scored goals at the 13:36, 14:56 and 19:34 marks of the first half. The 5:58 between Lowell's first and third goals is the fifth-fastest span in NCAA Division III history, while the 1:20 between his first and second goals is tied for 14th. Ross Golla scored a hat trick 8:07 between his first and third goals against Augsburg on Sept. 26, 2000, which is now eighth-best in Division III history.

Lowell's hat trick is the first since Tyler Bosch scored three goals in a 4-0 SJU win over Hamline on Sept. 29, 2004.

Senior Kellen Groves (Stillwater, Minn.) increased the Johnnies' lead to 4-0 with his fifth goal of the season at the 59:34 mark of the second half.

A goal by SMU's Steve Boussie on a penalty kick cut the deficit to 4-1 and ended a scoreless streak against the Johnnies that spanned 347:39 going back to a 7-2 loss on Oct. 24, 2004.

Junior Jake Archbold (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) tallied his first career goal with an assist going to sophomore A.J. Sollom (Roberts, Wis./River Falls).

Seniors Brian Horst (Stillwater, Minn.) and Tyler Kodet (Rochester, Minn./Lourdes) recorded two assists each.

Junior goalkeeper Luke Nelson (Caledonia, Minn.) made one save thru the first 45 minutes of action to improve his record to 9-4-0 on the year. Sophomore Matt Anderson (Eden Prairie, Minn.) made two saves in the final 45 minutes of play.

SJU (10-5, 5-3 MIAC) travels to face Luther, Iowa on Sunday, Oct. 19. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. in Decorah, Iowa.
