Saint John’s University senior goaltender Stu Van Ess (Kewaskum, Wis.) had quite a weekend for the SJU hockey team at the season-opening MIAC Showcase. Van Ess made 22 saves to record the first victory and shutout of his career in the Johnnies’ 4-0 over Saint Mary’s on Oct. 31, then made a career-high 34 saves in SJU’s 1-1 tie against St. Thomas on Nov. 1.

The Johnnies (1-0-1, 0-0-0 MIAC) continue non-conference play by traveling to face two nationally-ranked teams this weekend, beginning with No. 13 St. Scholastica on Friday, Nov. 6. SJU then takes on No. 4 Wis.-Superior Saturday, Nov. 7.
