Bill Saxton ended his 20th season as the head swimming and diving coach at Saint John's in 2017-18. The Johnnies have finished in the top three at the MIAC meet in 11 of the last 20 seasons and have three top-25 NCAA finishes under Saxton, who was named the MIAC Swimming Coach of the Year in 2003 and 2016.

In 1998, Saxton replaced Pat Haws, who was head coach for 25 years. Saxton was also the head women's swimming and diving coach at the College of Saint Benedict for six years from 1998 to 2004.

Before coming to SJU, Saxton was an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the men's and women's swimming and diving teams at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas from 1992-1998. Saxton was head coach for the Des Moines Swimming Federation from 1989-1992 and an assistant coach for the University of Iowa men's swimming and diving team from 1988-1989.

Saxton is a 1987 graduate of the University of Northern Iowa and was an AMCU conference swimming champion in 1985.

Saxton is currently a member of the American Swimming Coaches Association and the College Swimming Coaches Association of America.
