D3football.com Poll – Week 3

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Saint John's University stayed at No. 5 in the latest D3football.com Top 25 poll released Sunday (Sept. 20).

Six teams in NCAA Region 6 were ranked in the top 25, including five in the top 10: Wisconsin-River Falls (No. 2), Wisconsin-Platteville (No. 4), SJU (No. 5), Wisconsin-Whitewater (No. 6), Bethel (No. 9) and Wisconsin-La Crosse (No. 19). Linfield (29), Chapman (14) and Wisconsin-Oshkosh (3) received votes.

The Johnnies recorded three first-half interceptions, including one for a 45-yard touchdown from junior cornerback Westin Hoyt (Forest Lake, Minn.), while the offense piled up 672 yards and got touchdowns from nine different players Saturday (Sept. 19) in a 77-0 win over Hamline. SJU held the Pipers to just 68 yards of offense and two first downs.

Senior quarterback Trey Feeney (Moorhead, Minn.) directed the Johnnies to touchdowns on seven of its first eight possessions before taking a seat with 10:01 left in the third quarter. He completed passes to nine different receivers and finished 29 of 34 passing for 302 yards and six touchdowns.

SJU (2-0, 1-0 MIAC) travels to face Augsburg (1-1, 1-0 MIAC) for a noon kickoff on Saturday, Sept. 26, at Edor Nelson Field in Minneapolis.
