COLD SPRING, Minn. – Saint John's cross country finished third of six teams at its Toni St. Pierre Invitational on Friday, Sept. 18, at River Oaks G.C. 

SJU placed five runners in the top 20 for a team total of 62 points. Macalester finished first with a total of 38 points and four runners in the top 10, followed by Bethel in second (59). St. Scholastica finished fourth (108), followed by Concordia (125) and Northwestern (166).
 
Senior Cole Stencel (Mapleton, Minn./Maple River) ran an 8k time of 25:35.9 to finish first in the 111-man field, 18 seconds ahead of the next finisher.  

Freshman Quinn Carroll (West Fargo, N.D./Shanley) was next for SJU, crossing the line in 26:36.5 for 14th, just ahead of senior Vincent Kaluza (Cold Spring, Minn./Rocori) in 15th (26:39.5). Senior Max McCoy (Bennington, Neb./Mount Michael Benedictine) finished 17th with a 26:43.9.  

Senior Jacob Malecha (Lonsdale, Minn./New Prague) was 20th (26:46.6) followed closely by sophomore Erick Montalvo (St. Paul, Minn./Roseville Area) in 21st with a 26:47.0. 

The Johnnies return to action at Carleton's Running of the Cows on Saturday, Oct. 3. The men's race is scheduled for noon in Northfield.
