Members of the Saint John's track and field team compete in four different meets this week, beginning with Division I St. Thomas' Joe Sweeney Invitational at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, in St. Paul.

A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: Saint John's track & field totaled 10 top-10 performances at Division I Minnesota's Gary Wilson Invitational last Wednesday (April 22) in Minneapolis.Â
The meet started in the morning with a pair of invitational races, in which junior
Cole Stencel (Mapleton, Minn./Maple River) won the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:55.66, the fastest in the MIAC this season. Senior
Nick St. Peter (Maple Grove, Minn.) was eighth (3:57.83).Â
Senior
Jacob Malecha (Lonsdale, Minn./New Prague) took seventh in the steeplechase (9:45.56) with the second-fastest Division III time of the meet.Â
Later in the day, senior
Mitchell Degen (Brainerd, Minn.) set a meet record in the javelin throw, finishing second and first among DIII competitors with a toss of 58.39 meters on his sixth and final attempt.Â
Sophomore
Grady Minnerath (Cold Spring, Minn./Rocori) was third among DIII throwers with a seventh-place toss of 15.11 in the open shot put.Â

Adam Marable (Crystal, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) ran in the open heat of the 1,500 meters and finished seventh with a time of 4:18.86. Â
Sophomore
Anthony Sletta (St. James, Minn.) led Division III participants in the long jump with a mark of 6.99 meters (+4.1 wind) for ninth overall. Â
Senior
Owen Montreuil (Jordan, Minn.) led SJU in the 800 meters, finishing 14th overall and fifth among Division III competitors, in the 800 meters (1:57.80).Â
Sophomore
Bailey Evans (Breckenridge, Minn.) claimed 28th in the 100-meter dash with a personal-best time of 10.76 seconds (+2.4 wind). Twenty-three of the 27 sprinters ahead of him had a more favorable wind, including 16 with +5.0 or more.
Gustavus Adolphus' Drake AlternativeÂ
SJU competed in 10 events on Saturday (April 25) at Gustavus Adolphus' Drake Alternative in St. Peter. The Johnnies totaled eight top-10 performances, led by senior
Kole Guth (St. Peter, Minn.), who finished second in the javelin with a career-best toss of 48.19 meters on his first throw.Â
Junior
Connor O'Brien (Belle Plaine, Minn.) tied for fifth in the high jump (1.75 meters) and also raced in the 800 meters (2:09.12, 25th).Â
Sophomore
Anthony Ferrante (Prior Lake, Minn.) crossed the finish line sixth in the 100-meter dash (11.10) – .05 from his collegiate best – to lead a contingent of five Johnnies in the event.Â

Andy White (Sioux Falls, S.D./O'Gorman) and freshman
Jaden Alexander (Minneapolis, Minn./DeLaSalle) both finished in the top 10 of the 200-meter sprint, with White posting a season-best 22.62 for sixth and Alexander right behind in seventh (22.70). Ferrante just missed another top-10 mark with a 22.91 in 11th.Â
Senior
Tom Kuriscak (Stillwater, Minn./St. Paul Academy) took eighth in the discus with a personal-best heave of 40.56 meters.
Junior
Connor Brynteson (Minneapolis, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper) led SJU in seventh with a toss of 42.78 meters in the hammer throw, followed by junior
Rylan Turqueza (Ewa Beach, Hawaii/Radford) in ninth (40.62 meters) and sophomore
Jalen Graham (Minneapolis, Minn./Champlin Park) with a personal-best 39.94 for 11th.Â
Freshman
Sam Ruprecht (Avon, Minn./Holdingford) had the eighth-best shot put of the day, reaching 12.96 meters on his first throw.
