Round 1 Results
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Saint John's golf is in a three-way tie for second, one shot from the lead, following the first round of its spring invitational held Saturday, April 25, at Wapicada G.C. (par 72).
Wisconsin-Stout leads the 15-team field with an opening-round 290 (+2), one stroke ahead of a three-way tie between SJU, No. 23 Gustavus Adolphus and Wisconsin-Eau Claire at 291 (+3). SJU Blue is two shots behind them in fifth at 293 (+5).
The final round begins Sunday with a 10 a.m. shotgun start at Monticello C.C. (par 71) in Monticello.
Junior
Nate Appelhof (Blaine, Minn./Totino-Grace) carded six birdies, including four on the front nine, and is 10th out of 85 golfers with an even-par 72. Three teammates on SJU Red – seniors
Tim Fultz (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater Area) and
Ethan Kress (Woodbury, Minn.), and sophomore
Gavin Grahek (Maple Grove, Minn.) – are tied for 13th with a 1-over par 73 each.
Freshman
Austin Roloff (Minneapolis, Minn./Spring Lake Park) led the field with a -4 on the four par-5 holes and served as the Johnnies' drop score at 75 (+3).
Senior
Gus Briguet (Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge) tied Appelhof with six birdies for SJU Blue and led the 17 Johnnies in the tournament with a 1-under par 71 to sit in sixth place.
Freshman
Braxton Berlin (Lake City, Minn.) is tied with the SJU Red trio with a 73 (+1), followed by sophomore
Mac Drake (Sioux Falls, S.D./O'Gorman) in 19th (74) and classmate
Lukas Ehmke (Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge) in a tie with Roloff for 27th (75).
Sophomore
Marty Timmons (Brainerd, Minn.) led SJU White, which is 14th with a 316 (+28), with a 77 (+5).
