EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – Four Saint John's wrestlers – two in the winner's bracket and two in wrestlebacks – advanced to day two of the NCAA Regional on Friday, Feb. 27, at Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

As a team, SJU is currently eighth out of 16 teams with 40 points.

The top-three finishers in each of the regional's 10 weight classes advance to the 2026 NCAA Division III Championships scheduled for March 13-14 at the Alliant Energy Powerhouse in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Junior Connor Krueger (Superior, Wis.) received an opening-round bye at 133 pounds and won his lone match of the day, via fall, in 59 seconds. He is now 19-1 on the year and faces Wisconsin-La Crosse's Wyatt Magolski in his semifinal match.

Freshman Carson Gellerman (Becker, Minn./Big Lake) supplied the upset of the day with a pair of pins, including a second-round fall of top-seeded Tate Flege of Wisconsin-La Crosse – the top-ranked wrestler by D3wrestle.com and ranked No. 4 by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) – in 3:29. Gellerman is now 19-3 and faces Wisconsin-Stevens Point's Easton Hull in the semis.

A pair of Johnnies found defeat in the second round but bounced back to stay alive in the consolation bracket, needing two wins to reach the third-place match. Junior Aidan Wayne (Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo) received a first-round bye at 197 pounds and fell to Braiden Young of Augustana (Ill.) via pin before registering a fall of his own in his first consolation bout. Wayne is now 31-5 this season and faces the Pointers' Logan Neitzel.

Sophomore Thomas Holmquist (Mendota Heights, Minn./St. Thomas Academy) made his first appearance on the mat since Jan. 17 and went 2-1 at 125 pounds. He tallied a 22-13 major decision to start the tournament but fell to Augsburg's Keno Vanier via fall. Holmquist responded with a 19-4 technical fall to improve to 24-5 this season and faces Wisconsin-Platteville's Chris Karbash.
