Johnnie Basketball Cruises to 102-69 Road Win

DULUTH, Minn. – Saint John's basketball made 60.6 percent (20-for-33) of its shots in the first half en route to a 102-69 win at St. Scholastica on Saturday, Jan. 31.

The Johnnies (11-9, 7-4 MIAC) finished at 56.2 percent (41-for-73) for the game and outrebounded St. Scholastica (6-14, 2-9 MIAC) by a 43-24 margin, including 13-4 on the offensive glass. The visitors used the advantage for 17 second-chance points and dominated the paint with a 52-28 scoring differential.

The Saints' last lead of the game – 7-6 – came 2:31 into the contest. SJU, however, responded with a 17-2 run over the next 4:40 and led by double digits for the remainder of the game.

Sophomore guard Justin Johnson (Prior Lake, Minn./DeLaSalle) led six Johnnies in double figures with 16 points and two steals in 16 minutes off the bench. SJU totaled a 48-8 scoring advantage in bench points.

Sophomore guard Liam Farniok (Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest) followed with 14 points and was one of three Johnnies – joining junior wing Jamison Lien (Prior Lake, Minn.) and freshman guard Henry Tschetter (Stewartville, Minn.) – with seven rebounds. Tschetter collected 10 points and five assists.

Junior post Vincent Hillesheim (Minneapolis, Minn./Hopkins) poured in 12 points, on 6 of 7 shooting, in 15 minutes of play and freshman guard Peyton Podany (Anoka, Minn.) added 11. Freshman guard Hudson Hochstedler (Monticello, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) posted 10 points and six rebounds off the bench.

Junior guard Baiden Bean (Farmington, Minn.) registered 10 assists with seven points.

Jayden Brown scored a game-high 17 points for CSS, which finished at 45 percent (27-for-60) for the game.

The Johnnies return home to host MIAC-leading No. 11 Gustavus Adolphus (19-1, 11-0 MIAC) at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, in Sexton Arena.
