INDIANOLA, Iowa – Simpson (Iowa) won the final six matches in a 34-16 wrestling win over Saint John's on Friday afternoon, Jan. 2.

SJU (1-4 dual record) built a 16-6 lead with wins in three of the dual's first four matches but forfeited two weights and surrendered two other bouts via bonus points the rest of the way.

Freshman Isaac Hunter (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater Area) tied the dual, which started at 174 pounds, at 6-6 with a forfeit win at 184.

Freshman Carson Gellerman (Becker, Minn./Big Lake) followed with his eighth pin of the season, in 49 seconds, to improve to 12-1 on the season and junior Aidan Wayne (Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo) moved his record to 15-3 with a 12-1 major decision at heavyweight.

The Storm (3-3 dual record), however, rattled off the next six matches for the victory.

A pair of regionally ranked wrestlers – junior Connor Krueger (11-1 record at 133; Superior, Wis.) and sophomore Thomas Holmquist (16-3 record at 125; Mendota Heights, Minn./St. Thomas Academy) – did not wrestle.

The Johnnies travel to Pella, Iowa for Central's Under Armour Invitational at 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3.
