The 6,005 points were a new SJU freshman record for Evans tallied two more personal bests – the 110-meter hurdles (16.93) and pole vault (3.40 meters) – on the final day of competition.
Thurk needed a big distance in the javelin to stay on pace to eclipse his season-best total of 6,378 points but fell just under nine meters short of his PR and did not compete in the decathlon's final event.
