ST. PAUL, Minn. – Saint John's track and field finished second – by half a point, 207-206.5 – out of 11 teams at the 2025 MIAC Outdoor Championships on Saturday, May 10, at Macalester Stadium.

The Johnnies finished with eight event wins and held a slight 1.5-point lead entering the two-day meet's final event – the 4x400-meter relay – but the Royals won the race in 3:15.19, just ahead of SJU (Witschen, Smith, Mohr, Conzemius) in second (3:16.51).

BU scored 20 points or more in five events – the 110-meter hurdles (29), 400-meter dash (25), 400-meter hurdles (24), discus (22) and 200-meter dash (20) – which accounted for 58 percent of the team's total. SJU recorded five ninth-place finishes, just shy of eighth and one team point.

For the fourth-consecutive season, senior Kevin Arthur (Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park) swept the conference titles in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes. He broke SJU's program record to win the 100-meter dash in 10.19 seconds and returned to the track to take the 200-meter sprint with a season-best time of 20.81 seconds. The Johnnies' previous 100-meter record was 10.22 set by Ryan Miller in 2019.

Arthur also served as the second leg on SJU's champion 4x100-meter relay (Hansen, Arthur, Morey, Reis), which claimed its fifth title in the last seven seasons with a meet-record time of 40.29 seconds.

Freshman Max Reis (West Fargo, N.D./Spectrum), yesterday's MIAC champion with a program-record mark in the long jump, collected All-MIAC honors (top three) with a third-place finish (10.49) in the 100-meter dash and sophomore Kieran Murnan (Lakeville, Minn./Holy Angels) was fifth (10.74).

Junior Mitchell Degen (Brainerd, Minn.) won the javelin with a throw of 58.46 meters and senior Jackson McDowell (Centennial, Colo./Arapahoe), yesterday's MIAC champion in the high jump for the second-straight season, was less than a foot behind in second (58.21 meters).

Four Johnnies scored team points in the pole vault, led by Kole Guth (St. Peter, Minn.) with the conference title at 4.57 meters. Sophomore Andrew Withuski (Wahpeton, N.D.) was third (4.47 meters), followed by classmate Noah Besemann (New Brighton, Minn./Irondale) in sixth (4.37 meters) and junior Josh Johnston (Cold Spring, Minn./Rocori) in seventh (4.27 meters).

Three Johnnies just missed third place and All-MIAC accolades in their respective events.
