SJU Places 12 in the Top Five at Hamline

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Saint John's track and field won four events and collected 12 top-five finishes at the unscored Hamline Invitational on Saturday, April 5, at Klas Field.

Senior Kevin Arthur (Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park) won the 200-meter dash in 21.30 seconds, the sixth-fastest time outdoors in NCAA Division III this season.

Junior Owen Montreuil (Jordan, Minn.) took first in the 800 meters with a time of 1:56.47, while senior Tommy Allen (Woodbury, Minn./St. Paul Academy) and junior Nick St. Peter (Maple Grove, Minn.) followed in third (1:56.96) and fourth (1:56.99), respectively.

The Johnnies recorded the top-three marks in the javelin, led by junior Mitchell Degen's (Brainerd, Minn.) distance of 59.52 meters. Senior Jackson McDowell (Centennial, Colo./Arapahoe) and freshman Bailey Evans (Breckenridge, Minn.) were next in second (53.98 meters) and third (47.21 meters).

Senior Zach Schaffer (Chaska, Minn.) and freshman Anthony Sletta (St. James, Minn.) were 1 (6.64 meters)-2 (6.62 meters) in the long jump.

Sophomore Vincent Kaluza (Cold Spring, Minn./Rocori) claimed third in the 1,500 meters (4:10.31) and senior Joe Mensen (Hudson, Wis./Hill-Murray) did the same in the hammer throw (49.31 meters). Sophomore Cooper Smith (Alvarado, Minn./East Grand Forks) was fourth in the 400-meter hurdles (55.76).

The Johnnies compete at the Division II MSU-Mankato Open at noon next Saturday, April 12.
