2025 SJU Football Schedule
COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – The Saint John's University football team will renew acquaintances with several opponents the Johnnies have not seen in a while during the 2025 season.
Head coach
Gary Fasching '81 announced the new-look schedule on Tuesday, April 15.
The Johnnies open the season with a non-conference, home matchup against Minnesota-Morris on Sept. 13 in Clemens Stadium - the first time SJU has faced the Cougars since 1977.
The schedule also features MIAC matchups at Hamline on Sept. 20 (the first time the Johnnies have played the Pipers since 2019) and at home against Macalester on Oct. 11 (a team SJU has not met since 2002).
Beginning this fall and continuing in 2026, MIAC football teams will play an eight-game conference schedule without divisions, featuring seven regularly scheduled in-conference contests and one Championship Week game. After the seventh conference game, teams will be seeded 1-10, with the top two teams (based on in-conference record) playing for the MIAC championship on the home field of the No. 1 seed. The remaining Championship Week matchups will include No. 4 at No. 3, No. 6 at No. 5, No. 8 at No. 7, and No. 10 at No. 9.
This fall will be the first time since 2003 (a season that ended in an NCAA Division III national title) that SJU will have a week-one bye. SJU is 2-2-1 all-time against Morris, which went 5-5 (4-3 UMAC) last fall. The Johnnies are 11-2-1 against current members of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC).
"Our staff worked hard to find a week-one game against a nationally ranked opponent," SJU head coach
Gary Fasching '81 said. "Our options were limited and eventually fell through. We were fortunate, however, to find a week-two opponent in Minnesota-Morris. We compete against them in baseball, basketball, soccer and other sports, and we are excited to welcome them to Clemens Stadium for the season opener. Coach (Marty) Hoffmann has rebuilt that program and made them into conference contenders year after year."
After facing Hamline (a team against whom the Johnnies have won each of the last 25 meetings, including the past 13 in St. Paul), SJU returns home to host Augsburg Sept. 27 for Homecoming and visits Bethel Oct. 4 in a rematch of the 2024 MIAC championship game.
Then it's on to Macalester, an opponent against whom the Johnnies are 54-17-4 all-time, including a 32-0-1 record in the last 33 meetings (14-0-1 in Collegeville).
SJU visits Concordia Oct. 18 before Carleton comes to town for Family Weekend on Oct. 25. The Johnnies visit Gustavus Adolphus Nov. 1 and play host to St. Scholastica Nov. 8. MIAC Week is Nov. 15, though the location is based on seeding.
