COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's tennis wrapped up its non-conference schedule with a 7-0 win over Northwestern on Tuesday, April 15, at the Chang Tennis Complex.
SJU (7-8, 2-5 MIAC) swept the singles competition in straight sets for the second-consecutive match.
Sophomores
Alex Draeger (Litchfield, Minn.) and
Sam Wolden (St. Louis Park, Minn.) improved to 10-4 at No. 2 doubles with an 8-2 win, while junior
Taylor Duncan (Benson, Minn.) and freshman
Cole Haabala (Alexandria, Minn.) posted an 8-3 victory at No. 3.
Senior
Ryan Will (Northfield, Minn.) needed a tie-breaker – 7-2 – to collect his sixth win of the season at No. 1 singles. Wolden was victorious for the 10th time this season (10-4 record) at No. 2 (6-1, 6-0), while senior
Cooper Anderson (St. Paul, Minn./White Bear Lake) picked up a win at No. 3 (6-2, 6-3).
Draeger won his team-leading 15th single match of the season – a 15-3 record – at No. 4 (6-2, 6-3). Duncan and junior
Josh Peterson (Perham, Minn.) rounded out the Johnnies' scoring with victories at Nos. 5 (6-3, 6-4) and 6 (6-2, 6-0).
The Eagles (8-11, 1-0 UMAC) won their lone match at No. 1 doubles, 8-5.
The Johnnies return to MIAC action by hosting St. Scholastica (8-6, 4-3 MIAC) at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 17, at Sta-Fit inSartell.
