MIAC Release

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Saint John's University sophomore wide receiver Carson Hegerle (West Fargo, N.D.) was named the MIAC Football Special Teams Athlete of the Week on Monday, Oct. 27.

Hegerle became the first MIAC football player to return a punt for a touchdown this season, running in a 57-yard score in the fourth quarter of SJU's 49-10 victory over Carleton on Saturday (Oct. 25). He totaled 67 yards on four punts and 62 yards on three kickoffs for a combined 129 return yards. Hegerle added seven receptions for 70 yards and a touchdown for 199 all-purpose yards.

His punt return for a touchdown was the Johnnies' first since current assistant coach Max Jackson '19 returned a punt 60 yards for a score in SJU's 51-0 win over Hamline on Nov. 3, 2018, in Collegeville.

Hegerle is currently third on the team in receiving touchdowns (3) and fourth in both receptions (22) and receiving yards (271) in six games this fall.

No. 11 SJU (6-1, 5-1 MIAC) visits Gustavus Adolphus (3-4, 3-3 MIAC) for a 1 p.m. kickoff this Saturday, Nov. 1, at Hollingsworth Field in St. Peter.
