NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Saint John's swimming and diving won 10 of the 15 events in a 161-139 road victory at Carleton on Saturday, Jan. 25.
The Johnnies totaled 22 top-three performances.
Junior
Brayden Slavik (Green Isle, Minn./Chaska), the two-time reigning MIAC Men's Swimming Athlete of the Week, led SJU with three individual wins on the day: the 100-yard backstroke (53.11), 200-yard backstroke (1:55.49) and 200-yard individual medley (1:58.42).
Junior
Clay Megaw (Monticello, Minn.) was next with two wins, the 100- (1:00.05) and 200-yard (2:15.90) breaststrokes, and classmate
Carsten Reuter (St. Cloud, Minn./Tech) took first in the 50-yard freestyle (22.23).
Senior
Colby Kern (Delano, Minn.) won the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.59) and claimed second in the 100-yard freestyle (49.04), while senior
Carter Larson (Sartell, Minn./Sartell-St. Stephen) touched the wall first in the 100-yard freestyle (47.98) and was second in the 50-yard version (22.37).
Senior
Eli Grabinski (Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice) and sophomore
Cody Watts (St. Cloud, Minn./Tech) finished second (274.65/290.65) and third (252.65/231.45) in the 1- and 3-meter dives, respectively.
Senior
Connor Thayer (Prior Lake, Minn.) placed second in the 500- (5:03.52) and third in the 200-yard (1:52.55) freestyles, and freshman
Jason Jones (Monticello, Minn.) did the same in the 100- (1:02.60) and 200-yard (2:20.99) breaststrokes, respectively.
SJU won both the 200-yard freestyle (1:26.15;
Liam Noble, Larson, Reuter, Kern) and 200-yard medley (1:36.88; Slavik, Megaw, Noble, Larson) relays.
The Johnnies host Gustavus Adolphus for a dual meet at 1 p.m. next Saturday, Feb. 1, in the Warner Palaestra Pool.
