Johnnie Soccer Blanks St. Norbert, 3-0

Box Score

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's soccer picked up its first win of the season with a 3-0 shutout of St. Norbert (Wis.) on Saturday, Sept. 7, at Haws Field.

Junior forward Alex Bowman (Elk River, Minn./Rogers) started the scoring with the Johnnies' first goal of the season, and 10th of his career, in the game's sixth minute. Senior defender Joe Pearson (St. Cloud, Minn./Tech) found the foot of senior defender Landon Atkins (Lakeville, Minn./North), who led Bowman to the center of the box for a one-timer to the top-left corner of the net.

Pearson made it 2-0 for SJU (1-2-0 overall) with his first collegiate goal in the 62nd minute. A corner kick from junior midfielder Riley Buxell (Afton, Minn./Stillwater Area) deflected off the goalkeeper's hands to Pearson, who sent a shot off a Green Knight near the goal line.

Junior midfielder Isaiah Silver (Maple Grove, Minn.) completed the game's scoring with his first collegiate goal with 13 seconds remaining. The SNC goalkeeper came out to make a save on a hard-charging shot from senior forward Mahmoud Soumah (Sartell, Minn./Sartell-St. Stephen) and the deflection bounced to freshman midfielder Matt Holmes (Edina, Minn.), who chipped the ball to Silver at the right-top of the box.

Senior goalkeeper Evan Siefken (Lakeville, Minn./North) made two saves to record his 14th career shutout (another shared).

SJU out-shot St. Norbert (0-2-1 overall) by a 16-11 margin (7-2 on goal), including a 12-7 (6-1) edge in the second half.

The Johnnies continue non-conference play with a 5 p.m. match against Minnesota-Morris (0-4 overall) on Tuesday, Sept. 10, in Collegeville.
