COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's University head hockey coach Doug Schueller announced the addition of Travis Tollette as his assistant coach on Friday, July 19.

Travis Tollette BethelA 2013 graduate of Bethel University, Tollette recently served as an assistant coach for the Royals for five seasons from 2018-23. The Andover native coached at the youth, high school – as an assistant coach at Providence Academy for two seasons (2016-18) – and elite league levels for five years. In 2021-22, Tollette helped lead Bethel to its first MIAC playoff appearance in 14 years and the Royals became just the second team defeat U.S. National Under-18 Team in the last 20 years on Oct. 15, 2022 (4-2).

"We are very excited to welcome Travis Tollette to the Johnnie Hockey family," Schueller said. "He will bring a wealth of knowledge to our hockey program through his experiences playing and coaching at Bethel. It was very important to me to find someone with experience recruiting to a Division III hockey program and Travis has shown great success in that area.

"Travis is well connected in the state of Minnesota and around the junior hockey leagues that we recruit from the most. I am excited to use his contacts within the Minnesota high school hockey communities to help recruit the next class of Johnnie hockey student-athletes."

Tollette replaces Cory Thorson, who left SJU to become the St. Cloud Youth Hockey Association's director in June and serve as an advisor for InsideEdge Hockey. The Johnnies totaled a 94-71-28 (.560) record, including a 63-36-16 (.617) mark in MIAC play, with five MIAC Playoff appearances and the 2019-20 MIAC regular-season championship during his eight seasons (2015-17, 2018-24) on staff.

The Johnnies tied for fifth in the MIAC with a 6-9-1 record (9-12-4 overall), which included two losses decided during the 3-on-3 overtime, in 2023-24. SJU saw its streak of consecutive MIAC Playoff appearances end at five.
