COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Five Saint John's student-athletes were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District baseball team on Tuesday, June 4.
The five Johnnies honored were senior second baseman
Owen Dauk (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview), senior outfielder
Rodney Erickson (St. Paul, Minn./Woodbury), junior pitcher
Connor Hartley (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Rosemount), senior pitcher
Quinn Krueger (Woodbury, Minn.) and senior pitcher
Griffin Larson (Edina, Minn.).
Each institution may nominate up to five student-athletes for Academic All-District recognition in baseball. Nominees must be a sophomore or older with a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher. On the field, nominees must have played 90 percent of their team's games or started 66 percent of the season. Pitchers must have made either 17 appearances or pitched 25 innings to be eligible at the time of nomination (May 28).
All Academic All-District awardees are now eligible for Academic All-America distinction, which will be voted on by organization members and announced on Tuesday, July 2.
The CSC Academic All-District honor is the second-straight for Dauk and Erickson. Dauk is expected to receive his fourth Academic All-MIAC distinction (minimum 3.50 GPA) this summer. It will be the third time for Erickson and Larson, and the second for Hartley.
A computer science major with a 3.59 GPA, Dauk collected his second All-MIAC distinction this spring. He led the Johnnies in runs scored (44), stolen bases (15-15) and on-base percentage (.469), and was second in batting (.333) and home runs (5). Dauk batted .481 (25-for-52) with runners on base and ended the season by reaching base safely in each of the Johnnies' final 28 games. He led the conference in hit-by-pitch (10), tied for fourth in home runs (5), tied for fifth in stolen bases (7-for-7), tied for sixth in RBI (22) and was eighth in on-base percentage (.477) in MIAC play.
Dauk started the Johnnies' last 156 games at second base and ended his career as SJU's all-time leader in runs scored, both in a season (45 in 2023) and career (158), and hit-by-pitch, both in a season (20 in 2021 and 2024) and in a career (70). He was also second in games played (160), tied for second in walks (81), tied for fifth in triples (8), sixth in total bases (253), tied for seventh in doubles (32), eighth in home runs (16) and tied for ninth in stolen bases (31).
Erickson is a computer science major with a 3.85 GPA and started all 40 games for the Johnnies this spring in right field. He batted .293 and tied for the team-lead in triples (3), was second in doubles (14) and stolen bases (8-10), and was third in hits (49) and runs scored (37). Erickson ended his collegiate career tied for second in SJU history in triples (10), third in at-bats (548), fourth in games played (150), sixth in runs scored (118) and 10th in doubles (29) and total bases (232).
An accounting major with a 3.74 GPA, Larson was All-MIAC honorable mention this spring after he tied for third in the league in wins (4-0 record) and was sixth in opponent batting average (.222) in conference play. Larson finished 6-1 overall with a 4.65 ERA, .209 opponent batting average and 45 strikeouts in 40.2 innings (10 appearances with eight starts). He ended his SJU career second in program history in strikeouts per nine innings (10.84) and finished with a 12-5 record, .224 opponent batting average and 100 strikeouts in 83 innings (31 appearances with 14 starts).
Krueger went 1-0 with a 2.41 ERA, .177 opponent batting average and 16 strikeouts in 18.2 innings (eight appearances) and allowed only two hits (2-for-18) with runners on base in conference play en route to earning All-MIAC honors. Overall, Krueger tallied a 2-1 record with a 3.16 ERA, .219 opponent batting average and 28 strikeouts in 31.1 innings over 15 relief appearances. He is an economics major with a 3.54 GPA.
An accounting major with a 3.67 GPA, Hartley registered his first All-MIAC honor after he tied for first in the MIAC in wins (5-1 record), was third among pitchers with 35 innings or more in ERA (4.00), tied for third in innings pitched (36.0) and tied for fourth in strikeouts (33) in conference play. He posted a 6-3 record overall with a 3.53 ERA and led SJU's pitching staff in innings (63.2) and strikeouts (52). Hartley ended the regular season second in NCAA Division III in walks allowed per nine innings (0.76) and third in strikeout-to-walk ratio (10.00).
SJU tied for second in the MIAC with a 13-7 record (24-16 overall) and made its 14th-consecutive appearance in the MIAC Tournament (16th overall) this spring.
