No. 3 SJU Earns Top Seed, First-Round Bye in NCAA Playoffs

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – No. 3 Saint John's University (10-0, 8-0 MIAC) earned the No. 1 overall seed and a first-round bye in the NCAA Division III Football Playoffs when the expanded 40-team field was announced this afternoon (Nov. 17).

SJU hosts the winner between No. 18 Wisconsin-La Crosse (7-3, 5-2 WIAC) and Northwestern (7-3, 7-0 UMAC) in the NCAA's second round at noon Saturday, Nov. 30, in Collegeville.

The Johnnies improved their NPI score by 1.935 from last week's calculation to 80.849 to vault past Salisbury (Md.) and Hardin-Simmons (Texas) to No. 1 in the final ratings announced last night (Nov. 16). The NPI is the NCAA's new system for selecting the 12 at-large bids to the Division III playoffs.

The postseason appearance is the 33rd (29th at the Division III level) and ninth in the last 10 seasons for the Johnnies, who earned the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA playoffs with their 41-33 win over No. 24 Bethel Nov. 16 in the MIAC championship game. The title is the program's MIAC-record 37th. 

SJU has a 49-27 (.645) all-time postseason record, including a 26-7 (.788) record in Collegeville.

Ticket Information
A ticket must be purchased by each patron to gain admittance to the game. Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for ages 5-college (w/college ID). SJU season-ticket holders own the rights to the reserved seat/s, but must purchase a ticket to the game. SJU (game/season) or MIAC passes are invalid for NCAA games. Gates open at 10 a.m., two hours prior to kickoff, and on-site sales are credit card only. Tickets may also be purchased online at www.gojohnnies.com/tickets (starting at noon Monday, Nov. 25).
