D3football.com Poll - Week 6

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's University stayed at No. 3 in the D3football.com Top 25 poll released on Sunday, Oct. 13.

Eight teams in NCAA Region 6 were ranked in the top 25, including seven in the top 20: SJU (No. 3), Wisconsin-Platteville (No. 6), Wisconsin-River Falls (No. 10), Whitworth (No. 14), Wisconsin-Oshkosh (No. 16), Wisconsin-Whitewater (No. 19), Linfield (No. 20) and Wisconsin-La Crosse (No. 22). Wisconsin-Stout and Bethel received votes.

Junior wide receiver Dylan Wheeler (St. Paul, Minn./Mounds View) caught a 76-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Aaron Syverson (Minnetonka, Minn.) with 1:46 remaining to give SJU a 38-31 win yesterday (Oct. 12) at Concordia. Wheeler finished with eight catches for 159 yards and two scores, while Syverson ended the day 29 of 39 passing for 399 yards and five touchdowns.

Senior wide receiver Marselio Mendez (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) led SJU with nine catches on the afternoon, which he turned into 132 yards. Junior tight end Joey Gendreau (Shorewood, Minn./Minnetonka) fell one yard shy of 100 on eight receptions.

Junior running back Caden Wheeler (Andover, Minn.) rushed for his second-consecutive 100-yard performance – 128 yards on 21 carries (6.1 avg.) – and caught two passes for seven yards and a touchdown.

Although the Johnnie defense allowed 515 yards to the Cobbers, the corps allowed CC to convert only one of its final five third downs and recorded two sacks on the final drive. SJU forced the home team to go 0-for-3 on fourth down, including a fourth-and-one on SJU's 3-yard line with 7:16 left and a fourth-and-10 from the SJU 20-yard line on the game's final play.

The Johnnies (5-0, 3-0 MIAC, 0-0 Northwoods) open Northwoods Division play by visiting Carleton (2-3, 1-2 MIAC, 0-1 Northwoods) for a 1 p.m. kickoff this Saturday, Oct. 19, at Laird Stadium in Northfield.
