PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – Saint John's baseball started its Florida trip with a narrow 7-6 loss to fifth-ranked Baldwin Wallace (Ohio) on Monday, March 6.

The Johnnies (1-3 overall) issued 12 free passes (nine walks and three hit batsmen) and batted only 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position, including 0-for-2 with the bases loaded, in the defeat. Five of Baldwin Wallace's (8-2 overall) seven runs reached base via walk. SJU finished 3-for-16 with runners on base and 2-for-12 with two outs.

The Yellow Jackets built a 7-2 lead before SJU cut its deficit to one with a four-run eighth inning thanks to four walks and three BWU errors.

Senior lefty Casey Trapp (Blaine, Minn./Centennial) took the loss, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits in five innings. Sophomore Tien Foudray (Excelsior, Minn./Holy Family Catholic) surrendered three runs on three hits in two innings of relief, while sophomore Kade Bowar (Burnsville, Minn.) posted a scoreless eighth inning with one hit allowed and two strikeouts.

Junior third baseman Joe Becker (New Prague, Minn.) recorded three of the team's six hits with a 3-for-5 performance at the plate. Senior second baseman Owen Dauk (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) went 1-for-3 with two runs scored. He started the fifth inning with a double and scored on senior first baseman Max Nyrop's (Alameda, Calif.) hard-hit double play that made it a 4-2 game. BWU took advantage of back-to-back walks to begin the bottom of the sixth inning by plating two runs and added another in the seventh.

The Johnnies play a pair of nine-inning games against Pennsylvania teams on Tuesday, March 7, in Port Charlotte: 10:30 a.m. ET vs. Misericordia and 2 p.m. ET vs. Lebanon Valley.
