COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's swimming and diving opened its 2023-24 season with a 178-99 win over Macalester on Saturday, Oct. 21, in the Warner Palaestra Pool.
The Johnnies won all 14 individual events and the home team recorded 33 top-three finishes.
Five Johnnies won two events each on the afternoon.
Senior
Alex Heer (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) touched the wall first in both the 100- (57.72) and 200-yard (2:06.87) backstrokes, while junior
Carter Larson (Sartell, Minn./Sartell-St. Stephen) did the same in the 100- (47.80) and 1,000-yard (10:20.80) freestyles.
Junior
Langston Philion (Maple Grove, Minn.) swept the 100- (54.09) and 200-yard (2:02.53) butterfly races, as did sophomore
Clay Megaw (Monticello, Minn.) in the 100- (1:00.76) and 200-yard (2:16.25) breaststrokes. Sophomore
Brayden Slavik (Green Isle, Minn./Chaska) cruised to victories in the 200- (1:48.09) and 500-yard (4:54.72) freestyles.
Sophomore
Carsten Reuter (St. Cloud, Minn./Tech), the reigning MIAC Co-Men's Rookie of the Year, won the 50-yard freestyle (21.91) and placed second in the 100-yard freestyle (49.24).
Junior
Colby Kern (Delano, Minn.) won the 200-yard individual medley (2:06.96), as an exhibition, and also took second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:12.98) and 200-yard butterfly (2:07.74).
Freshman
Cody Watts (St. Cloud, Minn./Tech) won the 1-meter dive with a score of 243.15 and sophomore
Tim Rotter (Blaine, Minn.) took first on the 3-meter board (198.55).
The Johnnies welcome Hamline for a 5 p.m. dual meet on Friday, Oct. 27, in Collegeville.
