Johnnies Net Three Goals in Crucial Road Win at Bethel

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – Saint John's soccer returned to the win column with a 3-1 victory at Bethel on Saturday, Oct. 14.

All of the game's scoring came after halftime. The Johnnies (6-3-4, 3-2-2 MIAC) ended their scoreless streak at 425:55 on a header goal from freshman defender McKaid Schotzko (Rochester, Minn./Lourdes), off a long throw-in from junior defender Joe Pearson (St. Cloud, Minn./Tech), to gain a 1-0 lead 2:23 into the second half.

Sophomore defender Noah Hermanson (St. Paul, Minn./Holy Angels) made it 2-0 with his first goal of the season – on a pair of assists from junior defender Landon Atkins (Lakeville, Minn./North) and senior midfielder Matt D. Anderson (Omaha, Neb./Creighton Prep) – in the 72nd minute.

Bethel (3-6-4, 1-4-3 MIAC) cut its deficit in half with a penalty kick in the 84th minute, but junior midfielder Christian Rodriguez (Cold Spring, Minn./Rocori) gave the two-goal lead back to SJU on a cross from junior forward Mahmoud Soumah (Sartell, Minn./Sartell-St. Stephen) with 2:05 to play.

Junior goalkeeper Evan Siefken (Lakeville, Minn./North) made six saves to improve his record to 5-3-4 (2-2-2 MIAC) this fall.

The Johnnies venture south for a 5 p.m. non-conference game tomorrow (Sunday, Oct. 15) against Wartburg (7-1-6, 3-1-2 ARC) in Waverly, Iowa.
