MIAC Release
COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Twelve Saint John's University swimming and diving student-athletes earned 2021-22 Winter and Spring Academic All-MIAC honors on Monday, June 27.
SJU led the MIAC with 145 male honorees during the 2021-22 academic year, followed by Gustavus Adolphus (134) and Carleton (113). The Johnnies had 86 fall honorees (cross country, football, soccer), ahead of Gustavus (80) and St. Olaf (67).
Those honored (listed alphabetically) include:
-Senior
Spencer Atkinson (Cold Spring, Minn./Litchfield), a nursing major with a 3.56 GPA;
-Junior
Tim Belov (Medina, Minn./Wayzata), an accounting major with a 3.61 GPA;
-Junior
Dylan Fleischhacker (Greenwald, Minn./Melrose Area), a mathematics major with a 3.67 GPA;
-Senior
Steven Froehle (DuPont, Wash./Steilacoom), a nutrition major with a 3.72 GPA;
-Junior
Jack Grabinski (Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice), a biology and environmental studies double-major with a 4.0 GPA;
-Sophomore
Alex Heer (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall), an accounting major with a 3.60 GPA;
-Junior
Ethan Huber (Mitchell, S.D.), a biochemistry major (pre-medicine emphasis) with a 3.87 GPA;
-Junior
Joe Koller (Savage, Minn./Shakopee), a computer science major with a 3.69 GPA;
-Junior
Jack Mehus (Fargo, N.D./South), a political science and psychology double-major with a 3.88 GPA;
-Senior
Trevor Nelson (Helena, Mont./St. Andrew School), a global business leadership major with a 3.64 GPA;
-Sophomore
Mark Spangler (Littleton, Colo./Heritage), a history major with a 3.88 GPA;
-Sophomore
Scott Spangler (Littleton, Colo./Heritage), an environmental studies major with a 4.0 GPA.
Student-athletes must be a sophomore, junior or senior academically with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 on a 4.00 scale to qualify for Academic All-MIAC recognition. Transfers, like freshmen, must complete a full academic year to be eligible the following season.
Athletically, student-athletes must be a member of a MIAC-sponsored, varsity team and be academically and athletically eligible. The student-athlete must have utilized a season of participation (per NCAA and MIAC definitions) and have remained on the sports roster through the conclusion of the sports season.
The Academic All-MIAC honor is the third consecutive for Froehle and the second for Belov, Fleischhacker, Grabinski, Huber, Koller, Mehus and Nelson.
The Johnnies finished second out of six teams at the 2022 MIAC Championships in February.
