16 Johnnies Earn Academic All-MIAC Baseball Recognition

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Sixteen Saint John's University baseball student-athletes earned 2021-22 Winter and Spring Academic All-MIAC honors on Monday, June 27.

SJU led the MIAC with 145 male honorees during the 2021-22 academic year, followed by Gustavus Adolphus (134) and Carleton (113). The Johnnies had 86 fall honorees (cross country, football, soccer), ahead of Gustavus (80) and St. Olaf (67).

Those honored (listed alphabetically) include:

-Junior infielder Jackson Amann (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Eagan), a global business leadership major with a 3.63 GPA;
-Junior second baseman Owen Dauk (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview), a computer science major with a 3.67 GPA;
-Sophomore outfielder Rodney Erickson (St. Paul, Minn./Woodbury), a computer science major with a 3.82 GPA;
-Junior pitcher Jack Haring (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine), an accounting major with a 3.56 GPA;
-Junior shortstop Matthew Hayford (Rochester, Minn./Lourdes), an accounting major with a 3.87 GPA;
-Sophomore pitcher Griffin Larson (Edina, Minn.), an accounting major with a 3.61 GPA;
-Senior infielder Casey Lieser (Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial), a political science major with a 3.75 GPA;
-Sophomore first baseman Andrew Mahlke (Victoria, Minn./Chanhassen), an economics major with a 3.52 GPA;
-Junior outfielder Luke McElroy (St. Paul, Minn./Central), a computer science major with a 3.80 GPA;
-Sophomore shortstop Landon Peterson (Minneapolis, Minn./Blake), a political science major with a 3.94 GPA;
-Senior catcher Ethan Roe (Golden Valley, Minn./Blake), a psychology major with a 3.67 GPA;
-Senior outfielder Soren Roe (Golden Valley, Minn./Blake), an economics major with a 3.80 GPA;
-Senior second baseman Pete Schroeder (Minneapolis, Minn./Providence Academy), a global business leadership major with a 4.0 GPA;
-Junior catcher/infielder Zach Selchow (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview), a global business leadership major with a 3.72 GPA;
-Junior pitcher Casey Trapp (Blaine, Minn./Centennial), a biology major with a 3.79 GPA;
-Sophomore catcher Nick Trucke (Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer), a biochemistry major (pre-medicine emphasis) with a 3.64 GPA.

Student-athletes must be a sophomore, junior or senior academically with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 on a 4.00 scale to qualify for Academic All-MIAC recognition. Transfers, like freshmen, must complete a full academic year to be eligible the following season. 

Athletically, student-athletes must be a member of a MIAC-sponsored, varsity team and be academically and athletically eligible. The student-athlete must have utilized a season of participation (per NCAA and MIAC definitions) and have remained on the sports roster through the conclusion of the sports season.

The Academic All-MIAC honor is the third for Ethan Roe and the second for Dauk, Hayford, Lieser, Soren Roe, Schroeder, Selchow and Trapp.

The Johnnies finished second in the MIAC with a 15-5 record (24-17 overall) and made their 12th consecutive appearance in the MIAC Tournament in 2022. SJU's program record for home runs (39) lasted only one season as the Johnnies hit 51 this spring.
