Day 2 Results

GENEVA, Ohio - Saint John's junior Maguire Petersen (Hutchinson, Minn.) broke the program record to finish fifth in the decathlon and earn the fourth All-America honor of his career on day two of the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday, May 27, at the SPIRE Institute.

Decathlon
Petersen started the final day of the decathlon with two straight personal bests and later finished second in the javelin to total 6,932 points, which topped the previous school record (6,802) set by current Saint Benedict soccer coach Steve Kimble '99 in 1999.

He recorded a PR of 15.67 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles, which placed him 13th and bumped him one spot to third overall. He then claimed fourth with a PR in the discus, 37.29 meters, on his second attempt after fouling on his first try.

He tied for 15th in the pole vault (3.60 meters) and climbed back into fourth place overall with a second-place mark in the javelin (55.73 meters). He ended the two-day event with a 17th-place finish in the grueling 1,500 meters (5:07.54).

Petersen is the fourth Johnnie to earn All-America honors in the decathlon and first since Brayden Wagner '09 in 2009: Dan Besemann '95 in 1995 (seventh), Kimble in 1999 (sixth) and Wagner in 2009 (sixth).
