COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's track and field won 12 events at its home opener on Saturday, April 9, in Clemens Stadium. In addition to the open meet, SJU also held the first five events of its two-day decathlon.
Decathlon
Junior
Maguire Petersen (Hutchinson, Minn.) leads the 15-man event with 3,577 points thanks to two wins, and four top-two finishes, on the day. He opened the competition with a second-place finish in the 100-meter dash (11.47) and followed that with a fourth-place mark in the long jump (6.51 meters). Petersen collected a pair of wins in the shot put (12.79 meters) and high jump (1.97 meters), before ending the day with a second-place time in the 400-meter dash (52.86).
Freshman
Anthony Thurk (St. Bonifacius, Minn./Waconia) is sixth (2,980 points), freshman
Max Lelwica (Brainerd, Minn.) is 10th (2,767 points) and sophomore
Logan Hennen (Prior Lake, Minn.) is 14th (2,478 points). Thurk claimed second in the high jump (1.88 meters) and Lelwica was third in the shot put (10.95 meters).
The decathlon's final five events begin at noon Sunday, April 10, in Collegeville: 110-meter hurdles (noon), discus throw (~12:50 p.m.), pole vault (~2:15 p.m.), javelin throw (~5:15 p.m.) and 1,500 meters (~6:30 p.m.).

The Johnnies totaled 26 top-three marks/times in the meet.
A pair of Johnnies, junior
Kevin Arthur (Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park) and freshman
Alec Ungar (Eden Prairie, Minn./Chanhassen), won two individual events on the day. Arthur, the reigning MIAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week, won the 100-meter dash (10.89) and senior
Jack Young (Cold Spring, Minn./Rocori) was third (11.19), 0.01 from second place. Arthur also took first in the 200-meter dash in 21.97, while Young and senior
Seth Cattoor (Marshall, Minn.) were second (22.37) and third (23.00), respectively.
Ungar, meanwhile, won the high jump (1.95 meters) and long jump (6.64 meters).
Senior
Brady Labine (Detroit Lakes, Minn.) led the way in the 400-meter hurdles (55.12) and senior
Mack Maroushek (Red Wing, Minn.) was third (59.61).
A pair of Joes, sophomore
Joe Charbonneau (New Richmond, Wis.) and junior
Joe Stauffer (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti), went 1 (4.57 meters)-2 (4.25 meters) in the pole vault, while sophomore
Tommy Allen (Woodbury, Minn./St. Paul Academy) won the 1,500 meters (3:57.15) and junior
Mitch Grand (Hutchinson, Minn.) took third (4:00.95).

Alexei Hensel (Buffalo, Minn.) placed first in the 800 meters (1:58.37) and classmate
Nathan Clausing (Big Lake, Minn.) followed in third (1:58.95).

The Johnnies' 4x100-meter relay (Young, Arthur, Labine, Cattoor) took first in 41.97 seconds and the 4x400-meter relay (
Ryan Conzemius, Hensel, Clausing, Allen) was second (3:27.18).
Junior
Gavin Rupp (Villard, Minn./Minnewaska Area) and Frost placed second (42.21 meters) and third (40.24 meters), respectively, in the discus. Senior
Nathan Meyer (Iowa City, Iowa/Regina) and senior
Andy Goldsmith (Tulsa, Okla./Cascia Hall) did the same in second (9:46.38) and third (9:49.15) in the steeplechase.
